Dr. Rafiq Ahmed is a successful businessman from Chennai. He was born into a business-oriented family. He had a strong curiosity about business and entrepreneurship since childhood. He received great support from his parents. He held leadership roles in different industries. He founded Parveen Roadways in 1994. It was his first success in business. The company focused primarily on transportation and logistics. Dr. Rafiq Ahmed over the next 10 years expanded his business interest in iron & steel manufacturing, the transportation sector, and international trade partnerships.
He is also the director of German Iron & Steel Pvt. Ltd. It focuses mainly on producing high-quality iron and steel products. In 2014, he found the KICL has potential as a company despite facing financial challenges. He became the flagship promoter of KICL by August 2024. He holds 47.5 percent of the company's shares. Rafiq Ahmed joined Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd. as an investor in 2014,2 and later became its Managing Director. His takeover had opened up a whole new possibilities for KICL. His broad business experience has helped him to propel the growth of KICl. After joining KICl, he has been striving hard to to transform the company and doing everything to bring yesteryear glory back to Kothari brand. KICL has developed successful divisions, including Kothari Footwear, Kothari Geospatial and Drone Technologies, Kothari Public School, and Una Villa Restaurant Chain. He is working hard to make KCL a multi-sector company. He is convinced that historical institutions such as Kotharis must be supported and sustained. In line with this thought process, he is also working hard to resurrect Industrial Economist, a over 50 year old business magazine published from Chennai. He is focussed on institutional building, and carrying the tradition forward. He has a blinkered horse-like focus on providing jobs, especially to women in backward districts of Tamil Nadu.
